Kindergarten, PreK, U4: Fall 2025 Season Info
Start Date:
Sunday, September 7. We will meet for 8 weeks. There will be no soccer Columbus Day weekend. The last session will be November 2.
Time:
Kindergarten from 2pm to 3pm
PreK from 3pm to 4pm.
U4 from 3:30pm to 4:00pm
Location:
Klock Park, Topsfield. North end of park (entrance closest to Rte 1)Session Format:
K and PreK: Games and drills run by a professional coach, Coach Lee, followed by small-sided (4v4) scrimmage. Volunteer Coaches will assist with the drills and oversee the scrimmage portion of each session.
U4: Games and drills led by a professional coach. This is a parent/child program, meaning each child must have a parent present to help. We have found that this works best due to the young age of our participants and the hesitancy that some kids have in the group setting.
Goals/Philosophy:
At this stage of development, we aim to make sure that each child engages in the skills and gets as many "touches" on the soccer ball as they can. Most kids at this age are not developmentally ready for skills such as passing, positioning, rules of the game and reading space. During the scrimmages, if a ball goes out of bounds, the coaches will quickly roll a new ball into play so that the kids can start up again quickly and get the maximum number of touches in that time period as possible. Coaches might roll a ball to a player who hasn't had a lot of touches yet in order to encourage engagement. We don't teach throw-ins until the kids are older, because they take time away from getting more touches.
Some kids will love the skills/drills games and not enjoy the scrimmages. Some kids will only enjoy the scrimmages! They are young and this is normal and to be expected! Give gentle encouragement and let them warm up to the sport at the level that feels right for them.
Equipment:
Each child is expected to bring the following:
- Soccer ball (size 3 is best for this age, but 4 is okay)
- Cleats (please double knot, because they will become untied!). It is okay if they don't have cleats!
- Shin guards
- WATER
Volunteer Coaches Needed!
Please sign up on taasports.com!
We can't make this program run without volunteers. At the earliest ages, if you can tie shoes, then you are qualified! When the kids age up to the level where we form travel teams, we rely on parent volunteers to coach those teams. So please join us early and learn the ropes! It is really fun and rewarding and a great way to get to know all of the great kids in our community!
For K and PreK, all of our adult coaches have completed CORI screening, SafeSport training and concussion training. Thank you to our volunteer coaches! No parents are allowed on the field unless they have been cleared to coach.
For U4, there are no designated volunteer coaches, since each parent will be assisting their own child.
